After designing and working on Sneakers for the last 16 plus years, I decided to look back at one of the most significant customised sneaker projects in history.
It was October 1985 when Michael Jordan broke his left foot and had to take a leave of absence from the game for a while. During this time, Nike created a custom rendition of the AJ1 for MJ to help him rehabilitate. It was a very lo-fi custom job that required separating the uppers from the midsole to tuck in the straps and also stabbing a hole at the ankles to insert the straps that lead to a ankle brace.
